An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe (1970)

Vincent Price tells 4 of Poe's most famous and beloved tales.
In The Tell-Tale Heart a man is driven mad with guilt, The Sphinx tells of a man who see's a monster looking out through his friend's window, The Cask of Amontillado sees a man lead a rival wine collector into the catacombs on the pretext of showing him a rare bottle, and finally, a first-hand account of a man sentenced to death by torture at the hands of the spanish inquisition brings things to a close in The Pit and The Pendulum.

V/H/S/2 (aka S-VHS) (2013)

A Private investigator and his partner have been asked to check out the whereabouts of a missing student.
Breaking into his house (with the permission of his mother, the PI's client) they find an elaborate setup of multiple TVs, VCRs and a Laptop.
The PI goes to check out the rest of the house, and leaves his partner to see if she can find any clues on the laptop, or any of the collection of VHS tapes strewn around the floor.

When Devon (Snoop Dogg) accidentally shoots his kid sister during a gang fight, he makes a deal with the devil, His sister can return, but he must become a Hound of Hell; A gatekeeper of the underworld, who tells stories and collects souls.
In this Urban pistache of "Tales From The Crypt", We are lead through 3 short stories: A street artist given the power to kill through Graffiti,  A wealthy redneck who abuses his power when he inherits the house his daddy's old platoon live in, and a rapper whose meteoric raise to fame may have been more than just good luck...

V/H/S (2012)

A gang of young thugs, who film petty crime for fun, and make money by selling videos assaulting women in the street, take a steal-to-order job, requiring them to break into a house and steal a VHS tape.
When they get there, they find the occupant dead, and many tapes.
Told that they "will know" which tape is needed, they begin to watch some of the tapes, the contents of the tapes form the 5 stories presented in the movie.

Vault of Horror

5 short stories based on EC comics tales (for those who don't know EC were the guys who put out horror comics in the 50s, including 'Tales From the Crypt', 'Vault of Horror' and 'Haunt of Fear').

As is typical with EC, the strikes are simple consisting of a setup, in which someone behaves badly, and a payoff, where they get their just deserts. I never understood why parents groups got upset with these comics; they are little morality plays where no bad deed goes unpunished.

Tales That Witness Madness

A 1973 anthology film, very simmilar to the Amicus productions (I actually thought it was one until I checked wiki)

Donald Pleasence  runs a mental health facility. He claims to have some 'special' patients who prove some new theory or other. He leads a colleague around the hospital, stopping at each of these 4 patients and telling their stories;  these of course, form the short stories which make up the film.

Trick 'r Treat

Okay, so this is a bit different from the rest of the 2010 picks - unlike the other films I've shared my thoughts on this month, I've seen Trick 'R Treat before - in fact it was one of 2009s recommendations!

So why am I banging on about it today? Coz it's Halloween, that's why!
