Silent Night, Bloody Night. (1974)

Aka: Night of the Dark Full Moon, Death House

In 1950, William Butler ran from his house on fire, apparently self inflicted (possibly by accident). He leaves his house to his Grandson, Jeffery, on condition that the house be left exactly as it is "As a monument to inhumanity".
Over the years the house lay empty, and developed a reputation for being haunted.
Eventually in 1972, Just ahead of coming back to the small town himself, Jeffery sends a lawyer to visit the towns elders, who have wanted to buy the house for some time. At last Jeffery is willing to sell - for a fraction of the market value - provided that can pay, in cash, by noon the next day... And suddenly a killer is on the lose.
Is Jeffery the killer? Has William returned from the grave? Why is the killer, clearly a man, calling himself 'Marianne'? And what other secrets does the house hold?

Cry_Wolf (2005)

On Owen's first day at his post boarding school, he is immediately accepted by his new room-mate's clique.
When a dead girl shows up in the woods around the school, the group decide it would be funny to convince everyone that a serial killer is on the loose, and so they send an anonymous email about  a made-up serial killer "The Wolf" who, they claim, strikes boarding schools, killing a list of people in a specific order, starting with a townie (someone who doesn't go to the school) and then, come the full moon, different types of student.
Except, since sending the email, the kids start getting stalked by someone matching The Wolf's description... is it one of the group playing a joke? Has whoever killed the girl in the woods hear about the email and not taken to it kindly? or is it something else all together?
All we know for sure, is that next week is Halloween... and a full moon!

Rage (2010)

A FULLER VERSION OF THIS REVIEW IS ALSO POSTED AT A BLOG I CONTRIBUTE TO YEAR-ROUND.

Head to Horror Movie A Week to see what my friend Lisa and I think of the 52 movies we review each and every year.

While parking his car, Dennis inadvertently cuts up a biker. It proves to be a far bigger mistake than he could have guessed.
Starting with childish baiting, and working his way up, the baker spends the day stalking and terrorising Dennis from behind his tinted visor, taking a simple disagreement way beyond road rage, and turning it into a terrifying ordeal.

Madison County (2011)

As part of a college project, James arranges an interview with author David Randle. Randell's book is about Damien Ewell, who the author claims is Americas biggest untraced serial killer, having killed at least 30 people over the last decade.
Along with 4 freinds, James travels to Madison County, Upon arriving at the town the locals, clearly not keen on outsiders, tell them that Damien is fictional, and that David Randle left the area years ago.
Determined not to waste the trip, the teens go searching for Randle, but are picked off one by one, by a man wearing a pig mask.

Smiley (2012)

An internet-legend claims that if you visit a random video-chat site, and type "I did it for the lulz" three times, "Smiley", a killer with an emoticon carved into his otherwise featureless face, is supposed to appear behind your chat partner... And kill them.
Not wanting to move into the dorms, college freshman, Ashley, moves into a house-share with a stranger, fellow freshman, "Proxy", a keen user of 4chan's /b/ image board (home of Anonymous).
Proxy takes Ashley to a party organised by her fellow /b/tards, where she learns about, the myth of Smiley, and witnesses it for her self when a boy that the party invokes him on a chat-roulette style website.
Later, to prove to themselves that it was a prank, Proxy convinces Ashley to try it for herself... And it works.
When the boy who tried it at the party turns up dead, it seems that the legend of smiley isn't told in full; after killing the victim, Smiley comes after the person who summoned him; And it looks like Ashley is next...

Curse of Chucky (aka. Child's Play 6) (2013)

A paraplegic woman, Nica, takes delivery of a parcel addressed to her mother, Sarah.
The parcel is found to contain a 'good guy' doll; a talking doll of a little boy "Chucky", popular in the 80's. Neither of them knows who could have sent it, or why.
The next day, Sarah is found dead, having apparently killed herself.
When Nica's sister and family come to stay for the funeral, it isn't long before more people start dying, because (as fans of the franchise already know), Chucky isn't like other dolls...

V/H/S (2012)

A gang of young thugs, who film petty crime for fun, and make money by selling videos assaulting women in the street, take a steal-to-order job, requiring them to break into a house and steal a VHS tape.
When they get there, they find the occupant dead, and many tapes.
Told that they "will know" which tape is needed, they begin to watch some of the tapes, the contents of the tapes form the 5 stories presented in the movie.

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane. (2006)

Mandy Lane is the most sought after, and most unobtainable, girl in school. At a pool party, her best friend Emmet, apparently board with seeing the male populous of his school hit on his friend, convinces one drunken would-be suitor to go to extreme measures to try and impress Mandy... With tragic consequences.
9 months later, Mandy and Emmet's friendship is utterly distorted, and Emmet is more of an outcast than ever, while Mandy maintains her status as the ultimate "prize".
A student organises a vacation at his fathers ranch for himself and 5 friends (including Mandy, who he believes he can be the one to seduce) but when they arrive, it gradually becomes apparent that they have been followed by a madman, determined to take them all down one-at-a-time.

Inbred

Tourist Trap

When some friends on vacation break down off the beaten, they walk to a gas station with a (now defunct) wax museum.
The museums owner quickly befriends them and agrees to help get their car running.
As if the museum's many mannequins (built by the owners brother before he moved to the city to work for a real waxworks) weren't creepy enough, it isn't long before they are one by one terrorised by a telekinetic masked madman.

Scream 4 (SCRE4M)

I am a huge fan of the original Scream trilogy. At the time of the first films release it perfectly captured the mood of the horror scene (which is ironic, because it's countless copycats would ruin horror for the next 10 years as we got buried under a deluge of 'I still know what urban legend you did at cherry falls') so I was keen to see what the original writer (albeit with 'tweeks' from the writer of the third, and poorest, entry) would do with horror c2011.

The Phantom of The Opera (1989)

Or to use it's full title 'The Phantom of the Opera: The Motion Picture'

I should mention that I have never read Phantom, and I'm not familiar with any of the film versions, or the Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical, so while I can attempt to judge this 1989 version as a movie / story in it's own right, I cannot comment on how it serves as a version of Phantom, which is a shame, as I am lead to understand that this version is far more faithful to the spirit (if not the text) of the book than most; apparently the book (like this version) is not as romanticised as most versions, with more emphasis on horror element.

Hatchet 2

I never reviewed the 1st Hatchet (although I did see it), which makes jumping in with a 'part 2' review a little odd, luckily though, despite picking up right where the first movie left off, it works quite well as a stand-alone; as long as you except 'deformed killer on the loose in New Orleans swamp' as prior knowledge, nothing here goes unexplained - there's even an (expanded) retelling of Crowley's origin story.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

I LOVE the original NOES movies, and, for some reason, the idea of a remake appealed to me, so I was gutted when I didn't get to see it on the big scream earlier this year. I did however, avaoid reviewes, so that when I did see it, I could "go in cold".

Or so I thought - but then every thought I had about the movie seemed familiar to me, and after I watched it I checked out the review over at "Horror-movie-a-day" and I'd basically been re-writing BCs review in my head, so either he thinks exactly like I do, or at some point I read the review and then filed it away in my subconscious...

Sleepaway Camp

In 2009, I didn't review movies, so much as briefly recomend a few via my Facebook account, This was one of them...

The first movie is an excellent low budget slasher / whodunnit, the sequels are silly slasher (but at £7 consider them freebies with the superb first movie). Buy it now now and add it to your Halloween watch list! One word of caution though - DO NOT read the back of the box, the Amazon page, or ANYTHING AT ALL about the sequels until after you have seen the first movie - buy and watch it blind and thank me later!
