Her imaginary friend keeps her company, hugs her when she's upset, accompanies her to class, and generally does all the things imaginary friends do...
Oh, and he's Leatherface (yes, the 'Texas Chainsaw' dude).
Her favourite doll is a Nosferatu one, she reads nothing but horror novels, and whenever she's at home and her mum is at work, she watches horror movies. One of us, one of us!
She meets a man she dubs 'the vampire' (on account of his pale complexion and bald head, he has a passing resemblance to the aforementioned doll) and most of the movies plot is about her running into him (interestingly, whenever she does, leatherface is there in the background; or a clown - for some reason a clown pops up a few times) and the mystery of who he is.
As for Leatherface himself; rights were obviously not obtained, as he is never namechecked on screen, and is credited as 'Bubba' (fab reference that, by the way), so how they got away with the look I will never know. He is note perfect a replica of Leatherface from the original TCM - he is played better than he has been in any of the official sequels or remakes (save perhaps TCM3) and is mask is way better than the one in the remakes.
Unfortunately, the movie is very slow. Some of the things that should have been in the first act, and safe to mention in a review, don't happen until almost an hour into this 72 minute film, and the ending is the worst kind of lazy tripe.
Which is a shame - the concept was a good one, and the movie that makes you go 'aaawwwwww' at Leatherface really deserved more...
No trailer seems to be available for A Real Friend, so here's the trailer for the series of TV movies it's taken from (think 'masters of horror' only Spanish):
Interesting.....
