Trick 'r Treat

Okay, so this is a bit different from the rest of the 2010 picks - unlike the other films I've shared my thoughts on this month, I've seen Trick 'R Treat before - in fact it was one of 2009s recommendations!

So why am I banging on about it today? Coz it's Halloween, that's why!

Demon Under Glass

Another non-horror movie - but this one I didn't see coming...

I remember reading about this one when it first came out - our local newsagent used to stock some American magazines back then, including Fangoria, and IIIRC 'Demon Under Glass' was the cover story one issue.

The basic plot can be summed up as: A government department catches a vampire, and experiments on it.

So, about a Vampire, featured in Fango, must be horror, right?

Best Worst Movie: The 'Troll 2' Documentary

Okay, this is a bit different to my other 'Shocktober' picks, in that it ISN'T a horror movie: it's a documentary ABOUT a horror movie.

Specifically, it's a documentary about the cult surrounding last nights pick, 'Troll 2'.

Troll 2

Oh my Goooooooooooooooooooooooood.

That was appalling!

To be fair, I watched this movie in completely the wrong way: Sober and alone. This is a film that requires friends and booze!

Frozen

When 3 friends bribe their way onto a ski-lift for one last run before the slope closes for the week, a simple mis-communication leads to them getting stranded hundreds of feet in the air, in sub-zero temperatures.

If you think this sounds like "Adrift" only in a ski-lift instead of in the water, you'd be right - so whether or not you enjoy this at all depends on your opinion of that film - both are hard to review (or even write about - I'm not sure these things qualify as 'reviews' in any real sense) as the only thing you can say without spoilers is "they keep trying to find ways to escape".

The Human Centipede (First Segment)

A Mad surgeon creates a human centipede from 3 kidnapped tourists.

If you havn't hered about this film yet, and don't know how one makes a Human Centipede, have a study of this diagram, I'll wait...

Properly grossed out? - good!

I put off watching this movie for aaaaaaaagggggggggggges, as I'm not into 'challenging' myself the way I used to be when I was a teenager, but I decided to bite the bullet and 'force it down' for Shocktober...

Suck

When the Bass player of failing rock-group 'The Winners' spends the night with vampire, she returns with a new-found stage presence, and the band finally start getting some attention; it's not long before the other members want to join the party, but is the chance to make it big worth the price? And will they get to make it big before vampire hunter Eddie VanHelsing catches up with them?

Staring Iggy Pop as a low-rent producer, and Alice Cooper as a bar tender come Vampire spirit guide, this film should rock, if only in the musical sense, but alas, it falls short of it's potential all 'round.

Long Weekend (aka Nature's Grave)

When a couple with no regard for nature go on a camping trip, nature fights back.

This was always going to be a hard sell; I think it's important in a horror movie to have at least one victim or would be victim who's a least a bit likeable OR make a hero killer type movie (where you root for the murderer and everyone else is just machete fodder). In the case of 'long weekend' , there is no 'killer' as such - just a bunch of pissed of animals, but in order for nature to want to kill them, they had to be a pair of arseholes.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes

Throughout the 1990s, a serial killer terrorized upstate New York. After a decade-long crime spree conducted largely under the radar of law enforcement, the killer left behind the most disturbing collection of evidence homicide detectives had ever seen hundreds of homemade videotapes that chronicle the stalking, abduction, murder, and disposal of his victims.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

I LOVE the original NOES movies, and, for some reason, the idea of a remake appealed to me, so I was gutted when I didn't get to see it on the big scream earlier this year. I did however, avaoid reviewes, so that when I did see it, I could "go in cold".

Or so I thought - but then every thought I had about the movie seemed familiar to me, and after I watched it I checked out the review over at "Horror-movie-a-day" and I'd basically been re-writing BCs review in my head, so either he thinks exactly like I do, or at some point I read the review and then filed it away in my subconscious...
