Suck

When the Bass player of failing rock-group 'The Winners' spends the night with vampire, she returns with a new-found stage presence, and the band finally start getting some attention; it's not long before the other members want to join the party, but is the chance to make it big worth the price? And will they get to make it big before vampire hunter Eddie VanHelsing catches up with them?

Staring Iggy Pop as a low-rent producer, and Alice Cooper as a bar tender come Vampire spirit guide, this film should rock, if only in the musical sense, but alas, it falls short of it's potential all 'round.

The situation isn't helped by the fact that 'The Winners' are so middle-of-the-road it's untrue, and it's a shame, because a kickin' soundtrack would have probably been enough to elevate this into a pretty great film.

As it stands, it's still worth a watch if you have and hour and a half to kill; hell - the somehow managed to get Alice Cooper to almost act (if you've seen him in 'prince of darkness', 'Freddy's Dead' or 'Horror in the Attic' then you'll appreciate what a feat this is).

The rest of the cast are solid enough, and, while lacking as a horror movie, it's certainly one of the better attempts at a vampire comedy (for the most part they, well... Suck!)

Speaking of the rest of the cast, Malcolm McDowel brilliantly underplays vampire hunter Eddy VanHelsing, and a flashback to his younger days is one of the best uses of archive footage I'v ever seen in a movie.

There are some neat stylistic miniature shots for the road-trip parts and parts of the movie look more music-video than feature film, which is usually a bad thing, only here it works, probably due to the subject matter.

That said, most of you will probably disagree with me - it certainly has all the ingredients of a crap film; maybe I was just in the right mood for it, who knows?

And I loved the fact that Alice seems to have supplied his own wardrobe; he wears the coat from the 'Brutal Planet' tour through most of the film.
