Darklands (1998)

A reporter looks into a series of animal sacrifices in Wales, and is also asked to look into the death of a man in the steelworks.
He begins to suspect the two cases are related, and us drawn into a world of nationalism and religious cults.

This is without question the dullest movie I have seen in a long time.

It's a ripoff if The Wicker Man, without any if the things that made that movie good.

In top of that it's in many ways nonsensical. The jumps that the journalist makes to connect the stories is completely unexplained, the fact that he is even tipped off to the steelworks story is insane (his learning of the story is set up by the cult, but his knowing about it can only hinder them). Worse, the main character moved to London when he was a child, moving back to his home town seemingly in adulthood of his own accord... But it turns out that the cult needed him (specifically him) to be there.

Between a nonsense plot, wooden acting, passionless sex scenes and no atmosphere nor real sense of danger (until the last 5 mins of the film at least) I can find literally nothing to recommend this movie.

Oh, and right near the beginning, a pig gets dragged around by its ears (for real) squealing its poor head off.

If I see a worse one this month, I'll probably turn off and change disc...
