Braindead (AKA Dead Alive)

In 2009, I didn't review movies, so much as briefly recomend a few via my Facebook account, This was one of them...

Most of you have probably seen this - but for 3 quid it's well worth sticking an an amazon order with something else.

From Peter "Lord of the rings" Jackson (Back when he didn't think movies had to have 20 hours of padding per 1 hour of plot), "Braindead" is perhaps the funniest, certainly the bloodiest, thing you'll ever see. When Lionals mother is bitten by a rare rat-monkey (from skull island no less - does that make PJ's "King kong" a spinoff lol) she starts slowly dying. What she doesn't do is stop moving! Forced to keep her in the basment, her victims stoon start racking up, untill he has a collection of zombies including a street-punk, a nurse, a vicar and thier (post-zombification conceived) love-child. The big fight scene (Lionel armed with a petrol mower vs a couple hundred zombies) puts anything CGIed into LOTR to shame, and reminds us why the best effects are physical.
