Bride of Frankenstein

In 2009, I didn't review movies, so much as briefly recomend a few via my Facebook account, This was one of them...

Time to respect the classics:

By far the best of universals Frankenstein movies, 'Bride of...' also contains the best on-screen version of some of the stuff from the book (the blind man in the shack), while also deviating massively from the source and establishing the Creature firmly as a screen legend.

Featuring a career best from Boris Karloff (who, apparently, was none too happy at the decision to have the creature speak in the sequel) and a duel roll for Elsa Manchester (as both 'the bride', and Mary Shelly herself), it's also the entry where James Whale (who also directed the 1931 original) was finally given creative controll; the result is a genius blend of wit, horror, dark humour and high camp.

Great Halloween viewing for all - and even safe for those of you with kids!
